What do we do during Holy Week?

Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week. This week, more than any other, we need to reflect upon the time from Jesus arrest, to his trial by the Sanhedrin, the ignominy of being abused and mistreated by Pilate’s soldiers, dragging the cross up that hill knowing he would die on that cross, being nailed to the cross as he lay down upon it on the ground, and then being lifted up into the air awaiting his death.

We need to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made of his body, but also of his own self-respect. The pain he suffered and ultimately the feeling of abandonment and loneliness he surely felt as he hung to the last moments of his life while hanging upon that cross.

It all started at that last supper with his friends, the night in the upper room that he would be betrayed by one of his friends, when he had his last meal with the disciples before he would be arrested. Then he would go to the garden and pray while 3 of his most trusted disciples struggled to stay awake. Finally, he would be arrested and betrayed by a kiss.

These are the moments we remember during Holy Week. These are the moments that prepare us for Easter morning.
